We’ve got another shortened week ahead of us, so things will be pretty quiet here on Tuesday and Wednesday. Things will pick up Thursday, when I’ll be at Hen Hud-Yorktown. Catch up on what you missed last week and see what’s coming up this week!
What you missed:

Nyack volleyball libero Lila Shaw (6) must wear a different jersey than her teammates due to her position. September 24, 2016.
Column: Liberos a confusing, underrated position
What: I’ve had the pleasure of covering some exceptional liberos in my six years on the beat — from Caitlyn Zimmerman, to Arielle Misrok, to Lindsay Pelaccio, to Theresa Swertfager, to Melissa Tringali, to Sabrina Patriciello, and so many more. I didn’t understand the position early on, and I never appreciated how valuable a strong libero is to a team. I decided to rectify that this week, with a column solely dedicated to “those players who wear different color jerseys.” This column ran in the paper on Monday, Oct. 10.
Volleyball rankings: League foes Rye, Ardsley debut in Top 10
What: Rye and Ardsley move into the Top 10 this week for the first time all season, knocking out Tappan Zee and Scarsdale, who move to the bubble. This was posted to the blog Sunday and ran in the paper on Monday, Oct. 10.
Player of the week (Oct. 9): Mychael Vernon, Ossining
What: Ossining freshman outside hitter Mychael Vernon is the fifth lohud volleyball player of the week this season. This was posted to the blog Sunday and is not in print.
State rankings: Panas still atop Class A in state rankings
What: Panas and Pawling are the only state-ranked teams from Section 1, according to the New York Volleyball Coaches Association. This post contains the top five rankings for each class in girls and boys volleyball throughout the state, not just the area. This was posted to the blog Thursday and is not in print.
Facebook Live: Chat with lohud volleyball beat writer Mike Zacchio (Episode No. 6)
What: In the sixth edition of my weekly Facebook Live chat on my work account, I discuss why I wrote my column on the term, “side-out,” changes to my weekly rankings, coverage plans and more. Facebook Live chats will go on every Tuesday night at 8 p.m., unless otherwise noted. If you follow my account (not necessarily add me as a friend), you will get a notification when I go live. The chats will usually last between 10-20 minutes, depending on the amount of material I have to discuss. Email me questions ahead of time if there’s anything you’d like me to address! I’m at mzacchio@lohud.com.
Coverage plans: Oct. 10-16, 2016

A view of press row at the Westchester County Center during the Section 1 basketball tournament.
I’ll be tweeting out results and statistics each night and then compiling the information for a results post that night. If I have something going on at night, am covering football (Friday nights), or am off for the night, the post may go up the following morning. Follow me on Twitter for up-to-the-minute information at @Zacchio_LoHud. You can also follow me on Snapchat and Instagram at the same handles for additional content and coverage.
